“I’ve never entertained the thought of visiting a male gynae previously as I felt that having to discuss female conditions with anyone is already uncomfortable enough, let alone someone of opposite sex and a stranger.
When it comes to my turn to visit one, my obvious choice was female as I thought that someone with similar body as myself could probably understand me better. All arrows were also pointing one direction as my close friends’ gynae recommendations were female.
There was only one friend of mine who strongly encouraged me to visit her male gynae from Mt Elizabeth. She told me that engaging a male gynae was good for her as she felt that he was more sympathetic towards her compared to her previous experience with a female one. Also, her gynae was very composed and firm during the delivery of her child as man tend to be physically stronger and less emotional. This opened my mind to consider the option.
Nevertheless, I still preferred a female one as I’d rather have one less obstacle to go through.
However, I had a very positive experience with Dr PK Tan at PK Women’s Specialist Clinic.
I believe that it was Dr Tan’s sincerity, friendliness, availability and patience that overcame my doubts and concerns to consult a male gynae.
It wasn’t easy to start talking details on what I actually experienced (i’ll spare the details) but Dr Tan made it easy by making the consultation very light hearted and never appeared to be rushing.
I’ve also enjoyed being educated on the workings of female body through pictures and clear explanations. This built my trust in Dr Tan’s experience and professionalism.
Due to the clear explanations, i’m more aware of how my body works and the condition of it. Dr Tan had given me a lot more confidence in how I can take care of myself better. I’m mentally more prepared to try for a child and also know that I do have a doctor who is very experienced to approach for any problem.
Dr Tan is also non pushy and always respecting patient’s decision on treatment. I really like how Dr Tan would explain the pills/supplements that he offers and also advise practical solutions to problem.

When we met with some complications, Dr Tan was able to explain the situations in simple, clear terms so we could understand exactly what was going on without feeling overwhelmed.
